Our character

Cortex Health, is a locally based distributor of highly specialised medical products and medical foods. Our background is in medical research, patient support initiatives and commercialisation within the local environment for the Australian & NZ community.

Since 2013, Cortex was the first company in Australia to introduce glycomarcopeptide (GMP) for PKU which has now become synonymous with high quality formula for children (1+) and adults alike. Now our product ranges has expanded and dedicated to those with rare or complex conditions that can derive clinical benefit from some of the most advanced medical formula available worldwide. Our intent is to be a partner to the clinicians who manage these conditions and provide the highest level of support/service to patients and carers

At present, our range includes world-leading formula for phenylketonuria (PKU), tyrosinaemia (TYR), Ketogenic Diet Therapy and Severe Protein Allergy. These are sourced from expert companies in the USA and Japan. Our partner & supplier in the USA, Cambrooke Therapeutics, part of the Ajinomoto group of companies, share of passion to develop & provide unique medical formulae.

Mr Joe Baini

Mr Joe Baini is one of Australia’s leading pharmaceutical & biotechnology executives with over  30 years experience.  Past positions have included Aust/NZ General Manager of within global organisations (Gilead Sciences), Interim CEOs for ASX listed companies (Immuron Limited) & start-up companies (PresSura Neuro Ltd) as well as holding Director positions for ASX listed entities (Avexa & Bluechiip).  Achievements have included growing a multi national pharma company by 900% & orchestrating a complete change in direction to take a company away from closure into growth, development & positive revenue.

Joe has extensive experience on commercialisation, government relations, licensing negotiations, strategic management of IP as well as actively involved in capital raising.  In his spare time, he has mentored others in senior positions across the Industry thus helping forge an ethos of delivering and instilling the ethics of partnership and accountability.

Joe is a founding member of the Cortex Advisory Board and brings this wealth of experience to the small but dedicated team.

Mr Richard Bowen

A driven, accomplished and authentic business leader with over 20 years of C-level management experience, Richard is a consultant to number of businesses in the health and med-tech sectors. Starting his career as a lawyer Richard moved into operations management, then led significant transformation projects in health, financial services, logistics, IT and retail. He was a Director of Health Purchasing Victoria and Non-Clinical Co-Chair of the Global GS1 Healthcare Providers Advisory Panel. Working with a range of businesses – from start-ups to community to government to large corporates – Richard’s passion is bringing great ideas to life. 

Richard holds Bachelors of Law and Commerce from the University of Melbourne, and a Graduate Diploma in Transport & Distribution Management from RMIT. He is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He is also the Chairperson of the South Metro Junior Football League, the largest Australian Rules football league in Australia. 

Dr Warwick Tong
Warwick Tong MB ChB MPP GAICD

Warwick is a NZ trained physician with more than 28 years’ experience in the Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology industry. After his early career in General Medical Practice Warwick has held a wide variety of roles in the pharmaceutical and biotech industry in NZ(Glaxo) Singapore (GlaxoWellcome) London (GSK), Boston (Surface Logix) and Melbourne (CTx – Cancer Therapeutics CRC). His roles have included; Medical Director, Regional Business Development Director (Asia Pacific), Commercial Strategy Director (International) and SVP Development (USA).

Currently he is a director and Chair of Amplia Therapeutics (ASX:ATX) and a director of Aculeus Therapeutics Pty Ltd. He was CEO and Director of CTx from 2011 until April 2018. He is a member of the SAB of the Maurice Wilkins Centre in Auckland NZ, the Advisory Board of Cortex Health, Melbourne, and a member of the CSIRO Manufacturing, Business Advisory Committee.

Warwick was educated at the University of Auckland and Victoria University, Wellington, New Zealand and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
